After three productive days at the BIO International Convention in Chicago filled with fruitful business meetings, the Biotech City delegation has returned with promising partnerships for Laval’s biotech firms (BIOPOLE).
The meetings were highly successful and will result in very specific actions. At the convention, the Biotech City delegation met with four important international partners with which it and LAVAL TECHNOPOLE already have strategic agreements, namely Team Côte D'Azur, Genopole d'Ivry (France), Barcelona Science Park (Spain), and Technologiepark Heidelberg (Germany). Inspired by this rapprochement, the parties will work on specific projects in the months ahead. Of the other meetings that took place, the most promising were with the Illinois Institute of Technology and the Basque Industrial Agency.
The goal of the Biotech City’s presence at the 2010 BIO International Convention was business development. Its representatives were successful in this regard, forging close ties with foreign companies in the hopes of turning them into partnerships with Laval’s BIOPOLE firms and stimulating exchanges in strategic sectors.
While in Chicago, the representatives also took the opportunity to meet with the Quebec Government Office in that city, the Canadian Consulate and Investissement Québec. This trip is just one of many initiatives companies have to take to build business relationships in a globalized world. These meetings also furthered Laval’s internationalization strategy and paved the way to promising economic projects in the life sciences and other sectors in the Laval region.
“Our ultimate goal in participating in this international convention was to raise the profile of the Biotech City and its BIOPOLE as an important economic player in the life sciences industry, both at home and abroad. In the medium and long terms, this international strategy will generate significant economic spinoffs for the region, either in the form of investments for BIOPOLE firms or new companies that will set up in Laval,” explained Pierre Desroches, LAVAL TECHNOPOLE President and Executive Director and Biotech City Chairman of the Board.
Scientific symposium
The Biotech City’s representatives capitalized on the BIO 2010 to promote the Scientific Symposium, a two-day event that will be held in the Biotech City in early September and that will attract close to 20 U.S. biotech and pharma firms.
The Symposium is aimed at encouraging American biotech companies to come meet our contract research organizations (CRO) in a professional, scientific setting in the hopes of sparking their interest to do business with them. The five CROs - Corealis Pharma, LAB Recherche, Warnex, Algorithme Pharma and CirioN – are involved in follow-up phases of drug development.
