A garage sale of donated items held at the offices of Royal LePage Anne Shears on Samson Boulevard on May 15 raised $2,500 for la Maison l’Esther de Laval and the Fondation Marie-Vincent, which are two shelters for abused women.

Donations up
More than 120 Royal LePage offices across Canada, including Anne Shears in Laval, took part in a record-breaking campaign that day, sponsored by the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, and raising more than $300,000 for the cause of ending violence against women and children. Donations from this year’s national campaign were more than double the amount received last year when $120,000 was collected.
Throughout the day, around 500 people came and went at the Anne Shears office. There was a large inventory of gently-used items to choose from, including clothing, dishes, children’s toys and virtually everything else one would find at a neighbourhood garage sale. “We had a good response,” said Linda Dedario, a spokesperson for Anne Shears, noting that many of the donations came from the real-estate agents themselves.

Stopping violence
Every dollar raised by Royal LePage’s National Garage Sale for Shelter supports local women’s shelters, as well as national and provincial programs to help stop the cycle of violence. All proceeds go directly to the cause because Royal LePage underwrites 100 per cent of the administrative costs. Since 1999, the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation has donated more than $10 million to support women’s shelters, violence prevention and education programs across Canada.
