Jeffrey Noonan was judged tops for athletic
skill and academic excellence

Jeffrey Noonan, a goaltender with Rousseau Royal of the Midget AAA Division, has won a $1,000 bursary from a foundation set up by the Montreal Canadiens for athletic excellence. The teenaged Laval resident received the award after being judged the best player on his team who was able to successfully combine athletic skill with academic excellence.

Excels in school
Noonan’s academic average is 85. He attends Secondary 5 at Antoine-de-St-Exupéry School in St. Léonard. In an interview, he said he is continuing his studies to assure he has a good future, because “you can never be sure what will happen in hockey.” He isn’t certain what domain professionally he’ll go into, but is interested for the time being in medicine and the natural sciences.

Had top stats
Although he couldn’t cite them off the top of his head, Noonan said his goalie stats were a major factor in his winning the bursary. He’s been playing hockey since the age of four. He has two brothers who also played the sport, although they are no longer active in it. Noonan said he is potentially interested in a career playing hockey and that the Noranda Huskies have been around scouting him. Noonan’s bursary has no strings attached and can be spent as he wishes. For the time being he is keeping it in the bank for safekeeping.
